Quinta Diana description

Rural retreat with private heated pool and private gardens

Traditional Algarvean style house with all mod cons

Sunshine and clean fresh air - fantastic beaches & natural preservation area of Ria Formosa

A traditional Portuguese casa sympathetically adapted to modern living. Quinta Diana offers comfortable and spacious accommodation for 6. Ideal for family holidays and robust enough for kids! Alternatively a private and secluded holiday for couples.

Set out over a single level, Quinta Diana has three spacious bedrooms each with wall mounted air conditioners. The open living area is light and airy with views to the gardens from the two patio doors. With patios to the front and side of the villa there is a choice of sun or shade at all times of the day, any season. The outside permanent BBQ is popular for nights in and the table under the large pine offers an alternative spot for lunch.

There is an enclosed wood burning fireplace for cosy evenings if you take a winter break or to warm up springtime evenings.

The Tavira region - Algarve region

Quinta Diana is in the small hamlet of Malhada de Figueira which comprises 6-7 residencies - some owned by local Portuguese people and others are second homes and holiday homes. There are no bars or restaurants in the hamlet however nearby market town Vila Nova de Cacela offers two small supermarkets, restaurants and cafes, a bakery, pharmacy, bank and petrol station. Vila Nova de Cacela is approximately 10 minutes drive away. A further 5 minutes in the car will bring you to Manta Rota a superb beach with miles of soft white sand and views to the east of the Spanish border. Manta Rota and the local beaches are all part of a nature preservation area known as the Ria Formosa which runs from the Faro area east to the Spanish border - it is home to birds, fish and shell fish amongst the sandy lagoons and costal vegetation. The seaside town of Manta Rota has many bars and cafes. Tavira at about 12km from the villa has over 30 churches, cobbled streets, garden squares, a castle and bridges over the river. It offers a wide choice of cuisine with varied restaurants as well as less formal cafes and bars. To the east of the villa you can visit the old ferryport of Vila do Santo Antonio set on the banks of the River Guadiana - it has some jolly 'tourist' shops, cobbled streets, cafes and bars. Castro Marim an old castle town recently categorised as a place of historic interest for preservation is also nearby and has two castles to visit and a hill top windmill.

Quinta Diana is surrounded by the countryside. There are small areas around the villa with flower beds and potted plants but for the most part the grounds (about 1.5 acres) display a range of indigenous vegetation of fig, cork oak and olive trees, wild lavender and yukka plants. Visiting birds include a pair of hoepoes (very shy) a pair of blackbirds and a variety of migrating species.
The villa offers ample patio areas around the house and pool. Shallow wide steps lead down to the pool area with its own pagoda canopy. The pool is 8m x 4m and just over 1.5m deep. It has the benefit of 4 solar panels to boost the temperature and is a salt water system (as opposed to chemical chlorine). This means it is kind to skin, hair and eyes! It is professionally serviced once a week otherwise running on its own automated system. It is always a big hit with the kids!
The outdoor BBQ is easy to use and the table under the large pine tree makes a good setting for al fresco meals.
