Casa de Igreja description
House with private garden and views to the mountains. Retains the old wood beams in the living room.
Fenced garden with stone patio, covered seating area and BBQ.
Only 500ms to river beach and restaurant.
The house was renovated in 2009 and has kept as much of its Portuguese character as possible such as the large wooden beams in the living room that was once the old wine cellar, it keeps nice and cool in the hot summer months. There are TV and CD/ DVDplayer, some books and games and 2 double sofa beds here and the doors open onto the patio and private garden where you will find a BBQ and garden furniture.
There are 2 double bedrooms, 1 with double bed and 1 with 2 single beds.
The kitchen is equipped for self catering and has a dining area with table and chairs for 6. A door opens onto a small balcony with table and chairs where you can eat your breakfast `al-fresco` whilst admiring the lovely views across the fields and out to the mountains beyond.

The Coimbrao - Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) region
Central Portugal is a beautiful part of Portugal that is still relatively undiscovered by the tourist masses and provides an area for relaxation and fun in uncrowded conditions.
The Rio Alva runs through a valley that starts in the Serra de Estrelas, the highest mountain range in Portugal, and ends in Figueira de Foz at the sea.! The valley has many quaint villages on the hillsides and small market towns that still have regular markets where you can buy anything from cheeses and bread to rabbits and furniture
The Portuguese people are very friendly and most of the younger people have a good grasp of English, even the older people will help you get by with a bit of sign language.
The house is in the village of Barril de Alva where you will find a cafe with mini market , internet access is available here for a small charge.
The river beach is less than 500ms from the house where you can swim in the fresh wters of the Rio mAlva. There is a cafe/restaurant here that also provides take away meals.
Coja is 2 kms away and is an ancient roman town with a pretty cobbled main street and square. You will find more small supermarkets, shops, butcher, bank etc here. There are several good restaurants in the town serving a selection of local and traditional dishes. The river beach at Coja is very poular with plenty of deep water for swimming and diving off the weir.
Arganil is the district town approx. 10kms wawy where you will find a further selection of restaurants, shops and 2 large supermarkets. There is entertainment in the main square on a Sturday evening during August.
Coimbra is approx. 50 kms away with the ancient university and much visited library.
If you are desperate for a dip in the sea the nearest seaside resort is at Figueira de Faoz. approx. 70 kms away, an easy 1 hr drive.
