Fuegoblanco is a roomy guesthouse set in it’s own eight acres of lemon and orange trees on the banks of the Guadalahorce river in Malaga’s “Valle del Sol”.

Although we are only 40 minutes from Malag airport and the Costa del Sol resorts, staying at Fuegoblanco allows you to experience a very different Spain. Alora (2.5km away) is a pretty ‘Pueblo Blanco’, with white houses spreading down the hillside from the picuresque Moorish castle. It is a typical, bustling, small Spanish town with lots of bars and restaurants ranging from those catering mainly for locals, to those designed with visitors in mind.

The house offers six light, airy en-suite rooms with views over the lovely local countryside. Inside there are two guest lounges and a large reception area. Outside is a pool with large terracces and views to the mountains, two other terraces giving a choice of sun or shade at different times of day, and gardens. All in all, plenty of different spaces for you to relax with others, or escape from them as your mood takes you.

We let rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. There are enough eating places in Alora to chose a different one every night of your stay, or we can provide delicious fish or vegetarian meals. (see our website for some sample menus). We welcome guests who need special diets (eg low cholestorol, wheat and/or lactose free).

We are popular with independent travellers who like the freedom normally associated with self catering accomodation without the hassle of actually having to cook and clean for themselves. They tell us they love the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere here, and many who book for a day end up staying for longer.

The owners live in a separate apartment (the old farmhouse) and so are on call when you need them and out of your way when you don’t.

Our facilites include:
* A choice of English or Spanish television
* CD and DVD players
* A large range of books and board games
* Local guides and information to help you plan your holiday
* Packed lunches, or picnic sets if you want to buy your own food
* Table tennis
* Bicycles

The Guadalhorce (Costa del Sol) - Costa del Sol (Malaga Province) region

There are lots of differnt things to do during a stay at Fuegoblanco. Here are some of our favourites.

* Go terrapin spotting along the river at the bottom of the finca (if you are lucky, you may see kingfishers, foxes, hares, otters, and a tortoise) (100 metres)

* Explore the old streets of Alora, a typical bustling Spanish town, and see the castle in the perfect spot first chosen by the Phoenicians (3 km to the town centre – if you are walking try the scenic route back via the monastery for panoramic views over the valley)

* Go horse riding with Louisa in the hills west of here (15 mins drive – booking essential – tailored trips to suit all abilities)

* Discover the stunning northern end of El Chorro Gorge and visit Bobastro ruins (12 km to near end of gorge, 26 to the far end, ruins in between)

* Walk through the weird rocky landscape of El Torcal and then visit historic Antequerra or a Wolf sanctuary (1 hr drive to El Torcal,)

* Marvel at the engineering feat of the 17C bridge across the gorge at Ronda, possibly one of the prettiest towns in Europe, and maybe take a detour to the cave village Setenil, or the romantic castle at Teba (65 mins drive to Ronda through lovely countryside)

* Watch the flamingoes feeding in the lakes in springtime

* Take the train and be one of only 10% of tourists to the area to visit historic Malaga – 9 out of 10 of our guests fall completely in love with the castles, the winding streets of the old city centre, the Tapas bars, the museums and art galleries, and the beaches (30 mins each way, 10 trains each way every day)

* Take a day trip to Cordoba, one of the three great Moorish cities, on the train from Alora station (depart 7.55 am, arrive back 11.15 pm)

* Visit the Costa del Sol resorts - as well as finding sun, sea, sand and beach restaurants, you can: stroll along the promenade in sophisticated Marbella (1 hr); take the cable car up the mountain behind Benalmadena (50 mins); visit the zoo at Fuengirola (50mins); eat a full English breakfast in Torremolinos (50 mins); visit the Selwo adventure park in Estepona (70 mins). Or, for a quieter beach try San Julian (45 mins)

* Be amazed by the caves in Nerja and spend some time in the more Spanish coastal resorts of La Herradura (where you can hire sailing dinghies or surfboards) and Almuñecar (90 mins, 110 mins and 120 mins respectively)

* Missing all things English? You can shop at Safeways in Gibraltar (2 hrs)

* Go further afield to see the Alhambra and drink tea in arab tearooms in Granada (2.5 hours) or to see the Alcazar and eat Tapas in Seville (3.5 hrs)
