Aughavannagh Cottage description
Stunningly Beautiful Location Only One Hour From Dublin
Idllyic Setting On Own Grounds With Complete Privacy
Genuine Irsih Farmhouse Completely Refurbished
Aughavannagh Cottage is an old Irish farmhouse to rent situated in the spectacular Wicklow Mountains just one hour south of Dublin. Set in a peaceful wooded valley beside a little stream it is the ideal location for a perfect Irish holiday. Sleeping up to 7, this lovely cottage to rent near Dublin is fully equipped with every modern convenience yet retains all the charm of a bygone era. Easily accessible from ferries and airports, this is the perfect Irish cottage to rent for golf, hill walking, sailing and fishing - or just lazing about enjoying the beautiful Irish landscape.
This Wicklow cottage comprises a fully equipped kitchen with a huge old farmhouse table and oil fired range as well as a modern hob and oven. There’s a pretty sitting room with open fire, TV, video and stereo system. There are 2 beautiful double bedrooms, a twin and one single bed room - all with gorgeous views as well as two bathrooms - one upstairs and one downstairs and a study/reading room. There’s also a utility room with washing machine and dryer. The house is set on 5 acres with ample space for sitting outside and there is garden furniture and a barbecue.
Aughavannagh Cottage was recently described by The Irish Times as ‘High in the Wicklow Mountains, just the most picture perfect example of a country home. It retains the 19th century cottage feel, but with all the comforts of a good home away from home.’
The Sunday Business Post said ‘Tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located on the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads ,pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes and Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are less than half an hour away’.
A self catering holiday in Aughavannagh Cottage is a perfect way to both relax and explore the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. Whilst you’ll appreciate the total privacy and seclusion afforded by the wonderful location, a wide range of pretty villages such as Aughrim, Laragh and Rathdrum are only fifteen or twenty minutes away and provide a good range of shops and supermarkets. Importantly for a self catering break in Ireland, each has a decent range of pubs and restaurants.
Whether it’s your first visit to Ireland or you’re coming back to see friends and family, we’re sure you’ll find Aughavannagh Cottage an ideal base to visit Dublin. And for those of you who prefer to stay away from cities whilst on holiday - well you'll never even know it's there!

Aughavannagh Cottage Wicklow
The Aughrim - County Wicklow region
In the local area there are many pretty villages (including 'Ballykissangel' of TV fame) complete with welcoming pubs and restaurants. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is half an hour down the valley. This Wicklow cottage is situated in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Lugnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to over 3,000 feet. In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing and blue flag beaches. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is an easy day trip for visits to breweries, museums and great shopping.
Most of the county is dominated by the Wicklow Mountains. They are not especially high – just over 3000 feet or 1000 metres at their highest point. However the county is bisected by few east west routes and despite the proximity of the city, the landscape retains its unspoilt character. Heather clad mountains and rugged glens combine with small pretty villages and old Anglo Irish houses such as Russborough and Avondale.
Tourist attractions include the ancient monastic site at Glendalough. It is one of the highlights of any trip to Ireland and to this day instils a sense of tranquillity in many visitors. The round tower is set beside a beautiful lake framed by mountains which literally tumble towards the water. It’s hard to believe that the vibrant city of Dublin is only a little over an hour away when you standing gazing at the beauty of the lake - it must be one of the most serene places in Western Europe.
Increasingly, many visitors travel to Ireland on short breaks combining a visit to Dublin and a few days in the magnificent countryside. This is an ideal way to get a real taste of what Ireland has to offer.
